My G.I. Party

Yesterday, my day off, I was back in the kitchen.  I was having a one-man G.I. party.

I was first introduced to the term G.I. party over thirty years ago while in basic training for the Air Force.  The military uses the term G.I. party to describe a thorough cleaning.

Last Monday I tackled the refrigerator and the microwave.  This week I took on the stove and the counter tops.

What is the key to a good, deep down cleaning?  The first ingredient is a whole lot of elbow grease.  Next on the list is a scouring pad and the right cleaning agents.  I like to stick with the tried-n-true:  scouring powder and a product called Goo-Gone.

It took me over an hour to finish the job. The stove and the counter tops look good, if I do say so myself.

Every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning Our Saviour's throws a good, old-fashioned G.I. party.  God meets us in His house to give us the opportunity to have a deep down cleansing.

David knew just how badly we need this:  "Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.  Cleanse me with hyssop and I will be clean.  Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow."
