Needed: A Sense of Humor

Warren Wierbse tells the following story in his book On Being a Servant of God

During my seminary days, I got acquainted with Noel O. Lyons, who was then the executive director of Greater Europe Mission (GEM).  Noel kept contact with me and my wife after we graduated and did his best to enlist us as missionaries to Germany.  He was very persuasive, but the Lord had other plans for us.

I asked Noel one day, "How do you go about evaluating the missionary candidates who apply to GEM?"  He explained their candidate program and then added, "I won't send a missionary to the field who doesn't have a sense of humor.  No matter how much training and ability candidates may have, without a sense of humor, they may not make it on the field."

As for me, I'm thankful that I serve at a church that knows how to laugh.
