Blogs > Holywood?

I'm not ready just yet to proclaim it Holywood, but it certainly seems like Hollywood has rediscovered religion.

Let me explain what I mean.

A month ago I was sitting in a theater waiting to watch The Hobbit.  We arrived in time to see the previews.  I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw.  In seems that later this year "Noah" will be released on the big screen.  Mind you, this is no spoof or comedy, but a serious drama; Russell Crowe is cast in the title role.

A few weeks later I was back in a theater; this time waiting to see The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.  Once again we arrived in time to catch the previews.  I was very pleasantly surprised by what I saw.  The Son of God will be released next month.  The Son of God is a big-screen release taken from the highly successful mini-series, The Bible, that aired on cable TV this past year.

Last week I was on the Atlantic Monthly website.  The site featured an article about movies to see in 2014.  As I scrolled through the listing, one title jumped out at me:  Exodus.  The movie will be released just in time for Christmas viewing.  Christian Bale, one of Hollywood's best actors, will play Moses.

I'm not sure why Hollywood has caught the religion bug, but it should make for an interesting year at the movies.
