Last week, a statistic from the news jumped out at me.

Is this the percentage of Americans who now support stricter gun regulations?

Is the percentage of Americans who watched the Winter Olympics?

Is this the percentage of Americans who believe that Donald Trump should be impeached?

Is this this percentage of St. Paul residents who live in poverty?

40% of those who live in St. Paul, live in poverty.

This is more than any other metro area city.

That's a sobering statistic.

Does this surprise you?

Poverty is a complicated issue.  Sociologists, economists, and politicians debate the causes of poverty and propose solutions.

The Bible has a lot to say about the complex subject of poverty.

Jesus Himself remarked, "the poor you will always have with you" (Matthew 26:11).

Our Lord also commanded the rich young man, "go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven" (Matthew 19:21).

I encourage you to read through the book of Proverbs to see what wisdom it offers regarding the subject of poverty.  You might just be surprised.
