Repent

Some people do not like to hear much about repentance.

But I think it is so necessary that if I should die in the pulpit, I would desire to die preaching repentance, and if out of the pulpit, I would desire to die practicing it.

None of Us

None of us feels the true love of God until we realize how wicked we are.

But you can’t teach people that – they have to learn by experience.

The Only Solution

Love and ever more love is the only solution to every problem that comes up.

If we love each other enough, we will bear with each other's faults and burdens. If we love enough, we are going to light that fire in the hearts of others. And it is love that will burn out the sins and hatreds that sadden us. It is love that will make us want to do great things for each other. No sacrifice and no suffering will then seem too much. Yes, I see only too clearly how bad people are. I wish I did not see it so. It is my own sins that give me such clarity.

Praying with Indifference

We should not fix our desires on health or sickness, wealth or poverty, success or failure, a long life or short one.  For everything has the potential of calling forth in us a deeper response to our life in God.  Our only desire and our one choice should be this:  I want and I choose what better leads to the deepening of God's life in me.

St. Ignatius of Loyola
